Boat Registration Renewal: Doing it Right

Do you find yourself a bit unsure as to when you have to renew your vessel’s documentation? Does it seem like the rules surrounding boat registration renewal are befuddling at best and arbitrary at worst? Even experienced vessel owners, who have spent much of their lives on the water, aren’t always 100% sure about when and how to renew their vessel documentation. Those are just some of the reasons that we built our site. We wanted to create a resource that made it easier for vessel owners to renew their documentation at the right time the right way.

Boat Registration Renewal at the Right Time

Most documented vessel owners want to renew their documentation before it expires. So, it stands to reason that you’d want to renew early. However, renewing too early can cause problems, too. Remember: your documentation lasts for one year. You have to renew it before the end of the month that you originally documented it in. So, if you got your Certificate of Documentation in November, you have to renew before the end of November. But, if you renew it the next year in say, August, then, the following year after that, you’ll have to renew by the end of August. So, you want to renew in the right month.

Renewal Made Easier

You may have read the last paragraph and thought: “gee, that sounds kind of confusing.” We concur. So, we wanted to make it easier on vessel owners. If you go through our site, you’ll have the option of renewing your documentation for up to five years in advance. No worrying about “expiration months,” no concerns about “did I lose a few months of eligibility in my zeal to do this ahead of time” or anything like that – instead, you won’t have to worry about this for many years to come. In fact, you can renew for up to five years in advance.

What Happens if You Don’t Renew

Little good can happen for you or your vessel should your documentation expire. However, should that occur, we can help. You can go through the “Reinstate Certificate” option on our site. There, we can help you to get your documentation back. Again, if your documentation has expired, you cannot go through the “Review Certificate” route. But, you can reinstate your certificate so that you can return to using your vessel how you would like.

More Than Just Renewal of Documentation

When you think about it, “having a documented vessel” is really “having the freedom to use your vessel as you would wish without being hassled by the authorities.” We believe in freedom at our document processing firm, so much so that we’ve mobile-optimized our site. This means you can use our site from anywhere with an internet connection, thus giving you greater freedom to fill out these forms when and how you would like. You can see everything that we offer for vessel owners like you at our site here. To talk to our staff, you can call us.
